A new Parisian revolution
The total renewal of Paris’ subway line 1
Th e oldest and busiest metro line in France, Line 1, is seeking a new youth. On November 3rd, 2011, the new MP05 rakes were inaugurated. The visible part of the iceberg is that the line is now driverless, with air-cooling and low-noise system.
Nevertheless, the huge mass of work needed to get such results has been kept unnoticed since the automation process hasn’t caused any traffic interruption between 2007 and 2011. The cost was significant: 629 million euros. The task was gigantic and never done before: to modernize a whole metro line with Platform Screen Doors and automatic trains without any traffic interruption.
An agreement with the Trade Unions, no delays, no problems, and a perfect result; This work shall become the show case of the specific know-how of Siemens for the automation process, Alstom for the rolling stock, Kaba Gilgen for the Platform Screen Doors (PSD), and last but not least Clearsy for its Platform Screen Doors Control System (PSDCS) – DOF1.
